False Scaling

Sneaky way that improperly “scaling” charts can give you the perception of what possible outcome has for the near future.  It creates an air of uncertainty and fear.

  1. IMO scale manipulation is not necessarily a question of false or improper but one of appropriate or proportional. There are no hard and fast rules. The basic question is, do the chart designer's choices result in a fair presentation of the data? And then you're down to what is fair.
